Defeated or Motivated? Theological Method to Shine a Light in Dark Times
Does the Christian tradition have tools to help us navigate our grief and righteous anger during chaotic times? Don’t miss this powerful and uplifting presentation on Wednesday, April 22 at 7:00pm ET/4:00pm PT. Theologian Cecilia González-Andrieu and her recently graduated student, pastoral theologian Mayra Torres, will guide participants through theological method based on the justice-seeking insights of liberation, women, and synodal theologies. Join us to move from frustration to hope and to “set your face like flint” (Isaiah 50:7) at this fraught moment in history.
Dr. Cecilia González-Andrieu is a leading scholar of theological aesthetics, which she proposes as a way to bring communities together, respect and celebrate otherness, and lift the theological insights of those who know and express themselves from the peripheries. She is one of the contributing writers for America magazine, penning a number of significant essays on political theology, Latinx theologies, and women’s issues. Dr. González-Andrieu teaches in Loyola Marymount University’s Department of Theological Studies, co-chairs the LMU Latino Theology and Ministry Initiative, is an active supporter of the Ignatian Solidarity Network, an advisor for the Discerning Deacons Project. Cecilia was also recently inaugurated as President of the Academy of Catholic Hispanic Theologians of the United States.
Mayra Torres is a theologian, retreat facilitator, and pastoral leader dedicated to accompanying individuals and communities in their spiritual growth. With over eighteen years of experience in religious education and Latino/a ministry, she integrates U.S. Latino/a theology, storytelling, and lived faith experiences to create reflective and transformative retreat spaces. Mayra holds a Master of Arts in Theology from Loyola Marymount University and currently serves as Regional Coordinator for the Our Lady of the Angels Pastoral Region in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, where she supports catechetical leaders and pastoral teams in mission-centered formation.
