When Everything Is Shaking: Justice and Christian Witness in a Time of Polycrisis
We are living in a time when multiple crises, ecological, political, technological, economic, and spiritual, are converging and reinforcing one another. Many are calling this a “polycrisis,” a season when everything that can be shaken is, in fact, being shaken. In this month’s Acting for Justice gathering, Dr. Lewis Brogdon will explore what this moment reveals about our world, our institutions, and ourselves, and what it means to practice justice and Christian witness amid instability, polarization, and profound change. He will argue that this is not only a time of danger, but also a time of moral clarity, new opportunities, and hope, a moment that calls for deep formation, courageous truth-telling, and communities resilient enough to stand without illusion and act without fear.
Dr. Lewis Brogdon is the Executive Director of JustFaith Ministries, where he leads national efforts to form, educate, and mobilize faith communities to pursue justice, build relationships across difference, and live more fully into the calling of the gospel. A thought leader, religious scholar, and widely-sought speaker, Dr. Brogdon is regarded for his work on African American religion and the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. His writing and public witness engage urgent questions about power, allegiance, and what it means to speak truthfully about the state of the nation’s soul. Across his work, Dr. Brogdon calls communities to resist despair and cultivate the courage necessary for justice, renewal, and faithful public witness. He has spoken at influential platforms including the United Nations Permanent Forum for People of African Descent and the Vatican in Rome, as well as at churches, colleges, community organizations, and public gatherings across the country. He has offered prayers at the National Press Club and the South African Embassy in Washington, D.C., and delivered keynote addresses for major civic and faith-based events.
