Dr. Lewis Brogdon

Executive Director

Dr. Lewis Brogdon is the Executive Director of JustFaith Ministries, where he leads national efforts to form, educate, and mobilize faith communities to pursue justice, build relationships across difference, and live more fully into the calling of the gospel.

A thought leader, religious scholar, and widely-sought speaker, Dr. Brogdon is regarded for his work on African American religion and the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. His writing and public witness engage urgent questions about power, allegiance, and what it means to speak truthfully about the state of the nation’s soul.

Across his work, Dr. Brogdon calls communities to resist despair and cultivate the courage necessary for justice, renewal, and faithful public witness. He has spoken at influential platforms including the United Nations Permanent Forum for People of African Descent and the Vatican in Rome, as well as at churches, colleges, community organizations, and public gatherings across the country. He has offered prayers at the National Press Club and the South African Embassy in Washington, D.C., and delivered keynote addresses for major civic and faith-based events.

Dr. Brogdon has served in numerous leadership and teaching roles in undergraduate and graduate institutions including Simmons College of Kentucky (HBCU), Claflin University (HBCU), Bluefield University, Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, and BSK Theological Seminary. He has spearheaded the creation and launching of two Black Church Studies programs. His international teaching includes lectures in Jerusalem, Haiti, Oxford University, and the Bahamas, and he has taught widely on the life, thought, and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

He is the author of Hope on the Brink: Understanding the Emergence of Nihilism in Black America, The Bible in the Ashes of Social Chaos: An Introduction to Problematic Texts, The Gospel Beyond the Grave: Toward a Black Theology of Hope, and several other books and scholarly works. Drawing on the depth of the African American Christian tradition, Dr. Brogdon brings a theologically rich, pastorally grounded, and morally urgent voice to the work of faith-rooted justice and social transformation.
