Sacred Water inspired me to see the protection of our watersheds as a spiritual practice. The contemplative aspects of the class allowed me to confront difficult environmental issues out of compassion, rather than from a place of fear. This workshop integrates social justice, faith, science, and the importance of community as tools for healing our earth. The Just Action program is a vital resource for any group feeling called to justice ministry. I especially appreciated the time allotted to applying the conversations to local problems, as well as the step-by-step guided process for how to begin advocating for those in the community who are being affected by the issues we identified. One of the most important things I learned in this series is how much I didn’t know! I am far from alone: Our educational systems in the U.S. have white-washed our base of knowledge about our racial history. The readings, assignments and discussions in this series were constructive, even when difficult. We felt safe sharing our opinions, personal history and beliefs, and left empowered to take a stand against injustice. I cannot recommend this series more highly.
